Ex-servicemen on Friday organised a 'Lalkar rally' and took out a march in the town to protest against the failure of the Central government to accept their demand of one rank one pension (OROP).

Addressing the rally, senior state leader, United Front of Ex-servicemen Brig (retd), Kuldeep Singh Kahlon, criticised the Central government for not accepting their demand.

Condemning Union finance minister Arun Jaitley's statement, in which he had said that pension could not be revised annually, he drew the government's attention towards the Koshiyari committee report, which was tabled in the Rajya Sabha on December 19, 2011.

The committee had categorically recommended uniform pension for personnel retiring with the same rank with same length of service, irrespective of their date of retirement. The committee had also suggested that any future enhancement in pension also be automatically passed onto the past pensioners.

He said that misinterpretation and individual perceptions could not override the approved policy. Taking a jibe at Jaitley, he asked why he did not contest the report in the Rajya Sabha.
