Though the municipal corporation (MC) needs to maintain cleanliness at the market, traders say the civic body has failed grossly.

Open Drain an eyesore

The open drain, which has been clogged for years, is a sheer nuisance with it morphing into a dumping ground for garbage. Wild growth and stagnating water mark the area. With the drain passing through the market, people often throw waste in it and some even relieve themselves there.

Piles of garbage can also be spotted at the end of the market and on the other end of the drain near the Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) tubewell. Adding to the problem is a number of illegal roadside shops and shanties that brazenly litter in the open.

Sector 7 market

The situation at the Sector-7 market is not very different, with the garbage dumped by shopkeepers not being lifted for days. There used to be a receptacle of the municipal corporation (MC) for collecting garbage behind Sco 48. However, it was shifted some time ago. This has not stopped people from throwing garbage at the spot — now in the open.
