Substandard pesticides, fertilizers hit Solan farmers

Distressed over the reported supply of substandard pesticides and fertilizers in markets of the industrial belt, farmers in the district, on Saturday, demanded a high-level probe into the sale of the pesticides and insecticides by certain retailers of the region.

Distressed over the reported supply of substandard pesticides and fertilizers in markets of the industrial belt, farmers in the district, on Saturday, demanded a high-level probe into the sale of the pesticides and insecticides by certain retailers of the region.

The farmers said these costly pesticides, insecticides and fertilizer were not effective and were causing financial loss to them.

"The supply of substandard pesticides came into light after some farmers purchased products of different companies and instead of delivering the desired results, it caused damage to the standing crops in certain pockets," alleged farmers.

Member of national executive of the Bharatiya Janata Party Kisan Morcha Devinder Thakur in a letter to chief minister Virbhadra Singh stated that the supplier of the areas were not issuing any bills and were not even taking the supply of substandard products back.

He added that it was a matter of grave concern that at one hand government was spending budget of crores of rupees to educate the customers about the rights and, on the other it was not executing the laws strictly in the district.
