Chandigarh:
The e-governance academy will be set up by the Centre’s department of electronics, for capacity building of government in the field of e-governance; so that the project is implemented timely. Talks are on that National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) may get a role to play.
Dr Ashwini Kumar Sharma, director general of National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT), said, “The NIELIT has been asked by the Centre to look into e-governance academy, which will basically provide training in the field of e-governance to everyone, especially government servants and bureaucrats.”
He said, “The message has been conveyed verbally, but we are yet to receive written communication from the central ministry.”
The officer said, “Before selecting the final location for setting up the academy, the ministry will approach different states and UTs, but the one which will show keen interest and meet the parameters, like international airport, good weather, infrastructure and other factors will be given the priority.”
“Chandigarh has several advantages, the weather is good, people are educated, international airport is there. So, academy like the one in Mussorie can be established here,” Sharma said.
When asked, if any other state has e-governance academy, he said, “There are several good governance centers in two-three states, but there is no centre like e-governance academy. Centre is planning to set up e-governance academy and National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology can be one of the implementing agencies.”
