A man carrying a sharp-edged weapon, Surinder has claimed, attacked her when she was returning to her bed after visiting the washroom. The incident took place at 1am.

The assailant had covered face his face and managed to hurt Surinder's wrist. She said that she could not recognise the attacker. In her statement, Surinder Kaur said she had a dispute with her husband. “He had earlier assaulted me. This attack was on his behest,” she has alleged in her complaint.

“We have registered case of voluntarily causing hurt), wrongful restraint and criminal conspiracy against an unidentified person. Her husband has also been booked for criminal conspiracy,” Swarndeep Singh, superintendent of police (SP) (city), SAS Nagar, said. The accused was arrested and then released on bail.

Meanwhile, after Jatinder Pal was granted bail, the police registered another case against him. This time he has been for subjecting his wife to cruelty. The police said that Surinder had alleged that her husband had been assaulting her without provocation. SP (city) confirmed this.

Asked about the allegations of ill-treating his wife for dowry, he added: “We have been married for 10 years and I have never demanded a single penny from my in-laws. I will seek an independent inquiry.”
