Youth gets 10-year jail for raping Class-9 girl

A local court on Monday sentenced a 21-year-old Saketri resident to 10-year rigorous imprisonment for raping a 15-year-old girl in February this year. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on the convict, Satish.

A local court on Monday sentenced a 21-year-old Saketri resident to 10-year rigorous imprisonment for raping a 15-year-old girl in February this year. The court also imposed a fine of `10,000 on the convict, Satish.

The incident took place on February 26 when the victim, a Class-9 student, was on her way to school when she met Satish Kumar, her neighbour.

The girl alleged that Satish made her to sniff some intoxicant and took her to a secluded place where he raped her.

Meanwhile, the victim's neighbour, Kanchan, arrived on the spot and brought her home.

The victim with her mother lodged a complaint at the Mansa Devi police station. The medical examination of the victim confirmed sexual assault on her.

"During the trial, the victim and her mother stood by their statements but Kanchan turned hostile," said NK Goyal, deputy district attorney, Panchkula district courts.

Satish was convicted under section 4 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and section 376 of Indian Penal Code (IPC).
