A 20-year-old student of Amity University, Mohali, died after reportedly falling off the 13th floor of a residential apartment in Kharar during the intervening night of Friday and Saturday.
According to a general diary entry registered at Kharar police station, the deceased was a native of Haryana’s Sonepat district and was residing in a paying guest accommodation in the area.
Police said the victim’s friend had called his father around 3am and informed him of the incident. The youngster was rushed to the Kharar civil hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.
The victim’s father has not sought legal action against anyone but requested the police to investigate the circumstances surrounding his death.
Police have initiated inquest proceedings under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). A post-mortem examination is yet to be conducted.
