Punjab Police on Friday conducted 731 raids across the state under its anti-gangster campaign ‘Gangstran Te Vaar’, arresting 429 people, including 14 proclaimed offenders, and recovering four weapons. The police also initiated preventive action against 281 people during the operation.

Launched on January 20 this year, the campaign has so far led to 57,767 arrests, police said. (HT File)

Launched on January 20 this year, the campaign has so far led to 57,767 arrests, police said. Teams, along with the anti-gangster task force, targeted locations linked to gangster associates as part of efforts to dismantle organised crime networks.

Meanwhile, the state’s anti-drug campaign ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ entered its 524th day, with police arresting 94 alleged drug smugglers and recovering 23.5 kg heroin, 970 gm ICE, 11 kg poppy husk, 370 intoxicant tablets and 8,950 in suspected drug proceeds. The campaign has resulted in 75,496 arrests so far, police said. The Punjab Police officials also persuaded eight people to voluntarily undergo de-addiction treatment.
