A woman was critically injured while her brother sustained fractures after a speeding car allegedly hit their motorcycle near Omaxe City in New Chandigarh and sped away.

Victims Mandeep Kaur and Sharanpreet Singh, 24, were returning home after purchasing groceries from Mullanpur on Tuesday when a silver Volkswagen Vento (CH-01-AT-1132), allegedly rammed into their motorcycle. The impact threw both riders onto the road and dragged them for some distance. Police said Kaur suffered head injuries, fractures in both legs and multiple other injuries. She lost consciousness at the spot and remained unconscious when admitted to hospital. Her brother sustained a fracture in his leg along with facial and nasal injuries.

In his statement to police, Singh alleged that the driver briefly stopped after the collision but fled towards Baddi after noticing the seriousness of the injuries and the gathering crowd.

Their elder brother, Bikramjit Singh, rushed the injured siblings to Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, for treatment. Mullanpur police have registered a case under Sections 281 (rash or negligent driving), 125(a)/125(b) (rash or negligent act endangering human life), and 324(4) (mischief) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
