A human skeleton was found in bushes in a mango orchard opposite Centra Mall in Chandigarh around 2 pm on Sunday, prompting police and forensic teams to launch an investigation.
The skeleton was spotted by sanitation workers while they were carrying out cleaning work in the area. They immediately informed the police, following which a team from Industrial Area police station, along with forensic experts, reached the spot. The forensic team collected evidence and videographed the scene before the skeleton was taken into custody for examination.
According to preliminary findings, the remains are believed to be those of a man aged around 35 to 40 years. Police suspect the skeleton may have been lying at the spot for a considerable period. They are also probing whether the man was killed elsewhere and his body dumped in the orchard.
Officials have alerted police in Panchkula and Punjab districts, seeking details of missing persons to establish the identity. The cause and circumstances of death will be ascertained after forensic examination and postmortem.
