FIR against two for beating up daughter-in-law at Ludhiana civil hospital after infant’s death

The woman was living in her maternal house for the past four months following a dispute with her husband and in-laws, while her nine-month-old son lived with her husband’s family

Police have booked the father-in-law and another relative of a woman for allegedly thrashing her when she came to see the body of her infant son, who died from a medical condition, at the civil hospital.

The woman was living in her maternal house for the past four months following a dispute with her husband and in-laws, while her nine-month-old son lived with her husband’s family..

The FIR has been lodged following the statement of the victim’s sister, a resident of Gogi Market, Haibowal. The complainant said her sister had gotten married three years ago against the wishes of both her and her husband’s families.

The complainant said her sister had moved back to her maternal home three months ago after continued harassment from the in-laws, who, she said, did not allow her to bring her nine-month-old son along.

Notably, the victim had filed a complaint against her in-laws at the woman cell and the matter is currently under investigation.

The victim also alleged that the accused cremated her son’s body without informing her. She added that a postmortem report had been sought after the death, which occurred on Sunday, adding that her in-laws received the body after the report. The in-laws allegedly did not allow her to see her son when she visited the hospital and instead assaulted her.

Division number 2 police have lodged an FIR against her father-in-law, a resident of Haibowal and another relative following the complaint.

Giving out details, assistant sub-inspector Rajinder Singh, who is investigating the case, said a case under sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 341 (wrongful restraint), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 509 (insulting the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against the accused at the Division number 2 police station. A hunt is on for the arrest of the accused.

Mother reaches grave with toys

The inconsolable mother later reached the grave of her nine-month-old son carrying toys, clothes and milk — saying that she had been denied a final visit to her ailing son by her in-laws.
