A resident of Kothe Pona Road of Jagraon has been booked for allegedly holding his distant relative captive along with her 8-year-old son in his house and repeatedly raping her, police said on Friday.
The woman managed to escape and filed a complaint against the accused, identified as Jagdish Singh.
The woman said that her brother was booked in a rape case and Jagdish was helping them in pursuing the case. She said that on April 22, the accused barged in their house and kidnapped her along with her 8-year-old son from her maternal house. The accused held them captive in his house and raped her multiple times.
The woman said that she had married in 2014 and has a son from the marriage, but two years later, she divorced her husband and married a man from Kamalpura village.
After 5 years, she again shifted to her maternal home in Roomi village. In 2021, her brother was booked in a rape case. Jagdish tried to come close to her on the pretext of helping her brother, she said.
Sub-inspector Kirandeep Kaur, who is investigating the case, said that a case under sections 376 (rape), 365 (kidnapping or abducting with intent secretly and wrongfully to confine person), 366 (kidnapping, abducting or inducing woman to compel her marriage, etc) and 342 (wrongful confinement) of the IPC has been lodged against the accused at Sadar Jagraon Police station. A hunt is on for his arrest.
