Aware of victim Lalit Mohan’s movements and cash handling, the accused, Sunny Khosla, alias Mona, conspired with his relatives and friends to loot him, police said.

Along with Sunny, the Jalandhar commissionerate police have arrested six accused in all and recovered the robbed money.

Giving details, commissioner of police Satinder Singh said the industrialist, who runs a foundry mill, alerted the police about being robbed on August 17 while returning home from his factory in a car.

“The complainant stated that while driving, a white car suddenly intercepted his vehicle. The car occupants smashed his vehicle’s front windshield with a rod and snatched a bag containing around 72 lakh in cash, before fleeing the spot,” Singh said.

He added that acting promptly, senior officials rushed to the spot and collected key evidence.

Sunny’s accomplices were identified as Vikas and his brother Sunny, both residents of Pada village in Gurdaspur district; Sunny’s relative Hardeep Singh, Rajvir Gill of Jalandhar and Ranjit Singh of Batala.

Following their arrests, police recovered 72 lakh in cash, two cars without number plates, two mobile phones and some blunt weapons from their possession.

Police said the accused were produced before a court, which granted five-day police remand for questioning and further investigation.
