The probe pertains to the non-payment of Goods and Services Tax under the reverse charge mechanism (RCM) on the upfront lease premium paid to the Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA).

The land was taken on a long-term lease for development purposes and the period under scrutiny spans from the financial year 2022–23 to 2025–26.

During the course of the investigation, the taxpayer voluntarily deposited 10 crore towards the alleged tax liability through the electronic cash ledger.

CGST officials said the recovery is part of a broader enforcement drive to strengthen compliance and curb tax evasion.

According to officials, Ludhiana has recovered 93 crore so far during the current financial year in tax evasion cases and further investigation is underway to determine the full liability, if any.
