Taking a strict stance against teachers and education department employees failing to report for Census duty, the municipal corporation (MC) has written to the district education officers (DEO) of secondary and elementary education seeking action against absentee staff.

According to a communication accessed by HT, the civic body has recommended that teachers and employees not reporting for Census duty be marked absent in their respective schools. The MC has also sought withholding of salaries until the concerned Census officer issues a no-objection certificate (NOC).
MC officials said the Census is a time-bound and important government exercise and negligence in performing assigned duty would invite departmental action. Officials added that both the concerned employee and the head of the institution would be held responsible in case of violations.
The civic body stated that despite notices issued earlier, several teachers and employees had still not reported for Census duty.
Appealing to employees to immediately join duty, officials termed the exercise a national responsibility and warned of strict action against continued absenteeism.
