The Hathur police have booked Gagandeep Kaur of Guru Ramdas Nagar, Moga, her mother Beant Kaur, father Sukhmandar Singh and another relative Gurpreet Singh following the complaint of Mandeep Singh of Bhammipura village.

In his complaint, Mandeep Singh stated that Gagandeep and her family had assured him that she will help him move to Canada on a spouse visa after their marriage if he would bear her expenses for a study visa.

Harpreet said he got married to Gagandeep in 2019. He spent 39.57 lakh on Gagandeep’s visa, college fee and air ticket.

Meanwhile, Gagandeep left for Canada with the promise to return, but she never came back, citing her need to focus on her studies. Eventually, she stopped taking his calls.

When he contacted her family members and demanded his money back, they refused.

Realising he had been defrauded, he filed a police complaint on September 8, 2022. After investigating the matter, the Hathur police lodged an FIR against the woman and her family members.
