Ludhiana: Couple booked for duping jeweller of ₹35 lakh

The PAU police have registered a case of fraud against a man and his wife for allegedly duping a Jalandhar-based jeweller of over ₹35 lakh by refusing to pay for gold jewellery they had ordered.

Head constable Naresh Kumar said that investigation is underway and efforts are being made to trace the accused. (HT File)

The complainant, Anmol Narang of Shaheed Udham Singh Nagar in Jalandhar, stated that he runs a jewellery business. According to his complaint, the accused, Shalini Grover and her husband Rohit Grover of Bhamian Khurd, had approached him and placed an order for gold ornaments at his Kitchlu Nagar-based shop.

Narang alleged that the couple got jewellery prepared in multiple designs, with the total bill amounting to ₹35.16 lakh. But when asked to make the payment after the order was completed, the accused allegedly began delaying it and later refused to clear the dues.

The complainant approached the police on April 7, following which an inquiry was initiated. Based on the findings, the PAU police have registered a case against the accused under sections 318(4), 316(2), 3(5) of the BNS.
