Govt makes gold hallmarking mandatory: What it means

According to Bureau of Indian Standards, the hallmarking of jewellery is required to enhance its credibility and customer satisfaction through the third party assurance for the marked purity/fineness of gold, consumer protection.
BIS (Hallmarking) regulations were implemented with effect from June 14, 2018.

37% Indian women never bought gold jewellery, but want to: Report

A World Gold Council (WGC) report on Wednesday said that there is an ample scope for retail demand of gold jewellery in the country as around 37 per cent of Indian women have never bought gold but would consider purchasing in the future.

Mandatory hallmarking for gold jewellery from Jan 2021: Paswan

A notification making it compulsory for all the jewellers to register with the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) and sell only hallmarked gold jewellery and artefacts, will be issued on January 15, 2020. The decision will come into effect after a year.
