One held for sacrilege in Punjab’s Gurdaspur

The police arrested one person on Thursday for allegedly committing sacrilege of Gutka (a book of gurbani) and portraits of gurus and religious figures at village Shahoor Kalan falling under Kalanaur Police Station in Gurdaspur district.

The police have registered a case under Section 295-A (hurting religious sentiments), 307 (attempt to murder) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC against the accused.

The arrested person was identified as Sucha Singh, a resident of the same village. He allegedly threw the gutka and other materials in the fields near a pile of garbage early in the morning. Villagers caught him in the act and also made a video. They also informed the police about the incident.

The police have registered a case under Section 295-A (hurting religious sentiments), 307 (attempt to murder) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC against the accused.
