A 28-year-old man allegedly ended his life in Kharar after recording a video blaming a woman and her friend for his extreme step.
According to police, the deceased was the son of a retired army personnel and was working with a travel company in Rupnagar.
On January 12, he consumed a poisonous substance at home and was immediately taken to a nearby hospital. His condition deteriorated during treatment and he succumbed on January 14.
During scrutiny of the man’s mobile phone, his father found a video, in which his son stated that he was taking the drastic step due to harassment by a woman and one of her friends.
Based on the complaint and the video recording, police on January 18 registered a case under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The body was sent for post-mortem examination, and statements of family members and other witnesses are being recorded. Police said investigation was underway to verify the allegations and establish the sequence of events.
