Panchkula: Khair trees axed in Pinjore

The Pinjore police have registered an FIR following the illegal cutting of three khair trees inside the Bir Shikargah Wildlife Sanctuary. The incident has caused an estimated loss of ₹2.40 lakh to the forest department.

The case was registered based on a complaint from wildlife guard Jaipal. He reported that on the night of July 9, a white Brezza (HP12M-4441) was spotted inside Fire Line-10 of the sanctuary. The occupants fled when confronted by night guards. Upon inspecting the area the following morning, officials discovered the chopped logs. An FIR was registered on July 12 at the Pinjore police station under Sections 32 and 33 of the Indian Forest Act, and Section 303 (theft) of the BNS. While the investigation is ongoing, no arrests have been made so far. This is not the first such case in the region; earlier in March, a case was registered at the chandi mandir police station.
