At least 15 passengers had a narrow escape after the bus they were travelling on rammed into a stationary truck near Doraha on the Ludhiana-New Delhi highway during the wee hours of Wednesday
The truck which was carrying a cement container had been stationed in the middle of the road after having developed a technical snag. The bus which was headed to Amritsar from Yamunanagar was ferrying around 20 passengers.
Sharing details, assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Hardum Singh said the accident took place at 7.20 am.
Most of the passengers were asleep at the time of the incident, with many sustaining injuries. They were then rushed to the local government hospital, where they underwent medical examination and were treated for their injuries..
Shortly after the bus rammed into the truck, another car hit the bus from behind. The car was also damaged in the incident, but the occupants escaped unhurt.
Harjinder Singh, the driver of the bus in question, said he missed the truck being stationed in the middle of the road and rammed into it.
Detailing the incident, “Instead of making a cut towards the right side and hitting another car, I applied breaks.” He went on to blame the truck driver for not parking the truck loaded with cement containers roadside.

{{/usCountry}}Police, meanwhile, said while the front portion of the bus had been damaged in the accident, no casualty was reported in the incident. The teams that reached the spot after the incident moved the truck onto the roadside using cranes.
The ASI police will record the statements of the injured and register a complaint.
No lessons learnt
The accident was not the first incident where vehicles rammed into vehicles parked roadside from the city. On February 19, two persons including a woman were killed and 20 others left injured after a bus ferrying workers rammed into a stationary truck on the Ludhiana-New Delhi highway near Khanna. The truck was loaded with steel bars which were also hanging outside.
In December last year, at least seven students were left injured after a container truck crashed into a school bus on the National Highway in Khanna. The bus had been stopped in the middle of the road by the driver after it developed a snag.
Two persons including the bus driver were killed after a private bus rammed into a stationary truck on National Highway 44 near Khanna in June 2021. The truck was also carrying steel bars that pierced through the windshield of the bus.
