Revenue patwaris in Punjab have called off their strike after the state government agreed in principle to accept their key demands, including restoring the patwari cadre from the state level to the district level.
The decision was announced following a meeting between chief minister Bhagwant Mann and a delegation of the Revenue Patwar Union on Wednesday.
The CM also directed officials to initiate the process for recruiting more than 1,000 patwaris, saying the move would provide relief to the public and ensure that routine administrative work does not suffer.
Mann said the recruitment process would be completed in a transparent manner. He added that restoring the patwari cadre at the district level would help streamline recruitment and address administrative issues related to seniority and promotions.
Formal approval for restoring the cadre at the district level will be placed before the council of ministers, the CM said.
Mann welcomed the union’s decision to call off the agitation and said the government would consider genuine employee demands sympathetically. He also urged the union to resolve future service-related issues through dialogue and mutual consultation rather than agitation.
