Punjab elections: 8,120 Ludhiana voters exercised franchise through postal ballot

Of the 18, 27,340 votes polled in the district, which determined the fate of 175 candidates in the fray from 14 assembly segments in Ludhiana, as many as 8,120 votes were cast through postal ballot.

The Election Commission of India allows journalists, voters aged above 80, disabled persons, government employees serving in health and family welfare, information, and police departments and the railways, to exercise their franchise through postal ballot.

The highest number of postal ballots were polled from Ludhiana West, where 1,069 people exercised their franchise remotely, of the 1,17,360 votes cast in the constituency. Meanwhile, no postal ballot was received in Ludhiana East.

Postal Ballots nodal officer Pardeep Singh Bains said the election staff had visited the houses of the voters above the age of 80 years or in poor health much before the election date, and later police officials and employees on election duty exercised their franchise.
