Mansa police have registered an FIR against constable Navjot Singh after his colleague Gurwinder Singh sustained gunshot injuries in an alleged celebratory firing at a wedding, officials said on Sunday.
Both the cops are part of the police security squad assigned to Balkour Singh, the father of slain singer Sidhu Moose Wala.
According to the complaint filed by Harnek Singh, manager of the marriage palace where the incident took place on Saturday, Navjot had allegedly fired multiple rounds and one bullet hit Gurwinder in his abdomen.
As per the FIR, Navjot ignored the complainant’s concerns over carrying firearms inside the venue.
It was, however, not immediately known if the weapon used in the crime was a service one or personal.
Mansa senior superintendent of police (SSP) Nanak Singh said an investigation has been initiated in the case.
“Both the cops are posted in a police reserve battalion. It is a matter of probe if it was an accidental firing or a deliberate action, as alleged in the FIR,” he added.
Condition of Gurwinder, who is undergoing treatment at Bathinda hospital, was stated to be out of danger, he added.

Man hurt in firing during marriage function in Muktsar
A resident of Ferozepur, Gurlal Singh Sandhu, sustained a bullet injury after two groups clashed allegedly over playing a song at a marriage function in Muktsar district on Sunday.
According to the information, the accused has been identified as Harmesh Singh of Sadiq in Ferozepur.
Sandhu was admitted to a hospital in Muktsar in critical condition.
