The district education department officials will on Tuesday submit the inquiry report into the incident where a part of a Class 1 student’s finger was severed at a government school.
The parents of seven-year-old Gurprem Singh, who is a student at Government Primary School, Alamgir, had alleged that the middle finger of the child was severely crushed and part of it severed after getting stuck in the door that was closed shut by a school teacher.
The parents had also filed a complaint at the Dehlon police station against Kuldip Kaur, an EGS volunteer at the school.
The incident, the report for which will be submitted to to the deputy district education officer (Elementary), took place on November 16. Upon being contacted, Gurprem’s mother Harpreet Kaur refused to comment.
The school’s head teacher Sukhdarshan Singh, meanwhile, said the student was rushed to the nearest doctor after the incident and his finger bandaged.
“As the child was bleeding badly, the teachers did not notice that his fingertip had been severed, later the child’s mother found the part of the finger from the school,” he said, adding that the school has already assured the parents that treatment’s cost will be borne by them.

{{/usCountry}}Deputy DEO (Elementary) Jaswinder Singh said two block primary officers have been assigned with the task to investigate the incident and submit a report on Tuesday, adding, “Suitable action will be taken against the staff members if the report confirms the negligence on their part.”
