Mayor Renu Bala Gupta on Wednesday said the municipal corporation is making efforts in cleanliness and seeking public participation to attain first rank in the Swachh Survekshan 2025-26.

Karnal ranked third in the country in the Swachh Survekshan 2024-25, in the category of cities with a population of up to three lakh and President Droupadi Murmu awarded the city.
Gupta said this while speaking to the media at her office, marking the completion of one year of her term.
She said that in the past one year, 237 development projects were completed in all city wards to improve water supply, sewerage, electrical systems, and solar energy with a budget of ₹91.54 crore.
The mayor stated that eight colonies have been approved during her current term and 95 cases, including 50 colonies and 45 patches, have been sent to the government for consideration.
She also said that the corporation set a record by exceeding its property tax collection target in the 2025-26 fiscal year. The MC had set a target of earning ₹27 crore in property tax collections this fiscal year, but more than ₹29 crore was collected by the end of the year.
“In order to enhance the beauty of Karnal city, the MC has geared up to complete the dairy relocation project this year. A total of 133 plots have been allotted by the corporation, of which 57 dairies have been successfully relocated to the Pingli Dairy Complex. The process of allotting 94 more plots is underway. Thus, all the remaining illegally operated dairies in the city will be relocated to the Pingli Dairy Complex within a six-month period, making Karnal dairy-free,” she added.
