Class 10 student killed, another hurt in accident in outer Delhi

A 16-year-old Class 10 student of a Delhi government-run school was killed while another student of the same class was seriously injured after the bicycle they were riding was hit by an allegedly speeding car in Rama Vihar area near Kanjhawla in outer Delhi on Monday. The errant driver drove away from the spot, police said, adding he was arrested later in the day.

He was identified as Vijay Pal from Delhi, police said.

Deputy commissioner of police (Rohini) Pranav Tayal said that around 7am, the police control room was informed about an accident by an unknown vehicle in Rama Vihar area. A team reached the spot and found two injured schoolgirls and a damaged cycle. Inquiries revealed that the two were students on their way to Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya in Karala.

“The injured girls were rushed to a nearby hospital, where one of them was declared dead on arrival and the other one was pronounced unfit to give a statement,” said DCP Tayal.

Police said that since it was a case of hit-and-run wherein the suspect fled the spot, leaving the girls to die, a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder along with rash driving and causing hurt under Indian Penal Code’s sections 304A, 279 and 337 was registered against him.
