E-rickshaw driver averts kidnapping bid in E Delhi

Police officers aware of the matter said that the girls, who were allegedly lured by the suspect with the promise of food, were rescued and reunited with their parents, who work as daily wage labourers at construction sites in Delhi.

An alert 24-year-old e-rickshaw driver not only averted the kidnapping of two minor sisters but also led police to a 40-year-old homeless man who allegedly attempted to kidnap the girls with an intention to use them for begging in Vivek Vihar, police said on Saturday.

Police officers aware of the matter said that the girls, who were allegedly lured by the suspect with the promise of food, were rescued and reunited with their parents, who work as daily wage labourers at construction sites in Delhi.

Senior police officers said they will reward the e-rickshaw driver, Brahm Dutt Rajput, “for his commendable effort” and “setting an example on how the public can contribute as the eyes and ears of the Delhi Police” to help curb crimes.

Police identified the suspect as Sanjay (who goes by a single name).

“The kidnapper has been arrested,” said deputy commissioner of police (Shahdara) R Sathiyasundaram.
