A 36-year-old woman alleged she was confided inside a warehouse and brutally assaulted by three women over suspicion of stealing a packet of cashews from a departmental store in north Delhi’s Burari. Police said the incident took place on March 28 and they have lodged a case against the three staffers in the matter.

The woman is a resident of Burariand works at a mall. On the day of the incident, she was returning from work at around 9.30pm and stopped at a store to buy groceries.
As per the complaint, also seen by HT, the woman said she bought all the items and was putting them in her bag when three staffers at the shop accused her of stealing cashew packet.
Before she could show them her bag, they pushed her, hurled abuses and called her a thief, the victim said in her complaint. The women also allegedly snatched her mobile phone and dragged her to the warehouse behind the shop.
“I have shopped from the store before also. I was shocked and could not do anything. They punched and kicked me. My eyes were swollen…I could not see. They confined me in a dark room and kept slapping me. A man came in between and tried to stop them but they did not stop. I fainted later,” she told HT.
Meanwhile, her husband was trying to contact her. “My wife usually takes my calls or calls me back within minutes but on that day, I kept calling her from 9.30pm to 10.30pm and nobody answered. I went home and she was not there. Around 11pm, someone answered the phone and said my wife is at the store. I was confused and rushed there. There was a crowd of people present at the store. I saw my wife, she was brutally assaulted and was crying. We immediately rushed to the hospital,” her husbandtold HT.

{{/usCountry}}Police said the victim was taken to Burari government hospital, where she received initial treatment. Doctors later referred her to Lok Nayak Hospital the next day.
On March 30, the woman approached the police and a case was lodged under sections 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 127(2) (wrongful confinement) and 3(5) (common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Police said they are verifying the facts of the case and will investigate accordingly.
