According to the police, Rishikesh Dhasal, 25, a native of Jalna district, and his friend had come to the city for some work in the morning. The impersonators met them near Verna circle at Turbhe, sector 24, at 11.30 am and introduced themselves as policemen from APMC police station. They were in plainclothes then, the police said.

“After the initial conversation, the three asked Dhasal and his friend to sit in their car for some interrogation. They said that they had some suspicion about their backgrounds and hence wanted to ask a few questions at the police station. When the youth refused, the ‘cops’ forcefully bundled them in the car,” said an officer from APMC police station.

Inside the car, the youth were assaulted. “They abused and attacked the youth with bare hands as the car was moving in full speed. They also checked their pockets and bags and took away Rs5 lakh,” the officer said.

The three men abandoned the youth and then fled the spot. Dhasal and his friend then approached the police and registered a complaint.

“We have got the registration number of the car. We are following certain leads and hope to nab the accused very soon,” another police officer said.
