HSPCB seizes 1,912 kg prohibited plastic in Gurugram enforcement drive

The seizure followed an August 20 awareness programme where market members were briefed on penalties and given jute bags as alternatives.

The Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB) seized 1,912 kg of non-compliant plastic items from a trading company on Daultabad Road during an enforcement drive in Gurugram on August 21, officials said, as the board stepped up action against single-use and prohibited plastic alongside public awareness efforts.

An HSPCB Gurugram Region (North) team inspected the Daultabad Industrial Area to check the use, storage and distribution of prohibited plastic. The team comprised Kamesh, assistant environmental engineer (AEE), and Raghvender, junior environmental engineer (JEE).

The seized material was found to be in violation of the prevailing rules and was confiscated by the HSPCB team, officials said. The action aims to discourage businesses and vendors from using banned plastic items and ensure compliance through inspections, they added.

The enforcement drive followed an awareness programme organised at Kisan Bhawan, Gurugram, on August 20 on the harmful impact of single-use plastic and the importance of waste segregation. Shopkeepers, vegetable vendors and other members of the market community participated.

The programme coordinator and HSPCB representatives sensitised participants about the environmental impact of single-use plastic and polythene, penalties for violations and the need to adopt eco-friendly alternatives. Jute bags were also distributed to encourage attendees to switch to reusable alternatives.
