I-Day traffic curbs: Gurugram, Faridabad restrict Delhi-bound heavy vehicles

Gurugram will restrict heavy vehicles on NH-48 during rehearsal and I-Day, advising transporters to use Dwarka Expressway and KMP Expressway.

The Gurugram and Faridabad police on Tuesday announced restrictions on the movement of heavy vehicles towards Delhi ahead of Independence Day celebrations, with curbs to remain in force during the full dress rehearsal and the main celebrations.

In Gurugram, heavy vehicles will not be allowed to enter Delhi through NH-48 from 5pm on August 12 to 1.30pm on August 13 for the full dress rehearsal. The restriction will be imposed again from 5pm on August 14 to 1.30pm on August 15 for the Independence Day celebrations, DCP Traffic Prateek Gehlot said.

No specific diversion routes or entry points in Gurugram were mentioned in the advisory. It only advised commuters and transporters to use the Dwarka Expressway and KMP Expressway instead of NH-48 during the restricted periods.

In Faridabad, Delhi-bound heavy and medium goods vehicles and interstate buses will be restricted from 8pm on August 12 to 1pm on August 13 for the full dress rehearsal. For the Independence Day celebrations, the restriction will begin at 8pm on August 14 and continue until the programme concludes on August 15, traffic police said.

Emergency vehicles, including ambulances, fire tenders and police vehicles, will be exempted. Vehicles carrying milk, fruits, vegetables, essential food items, medicines, medical supplies and fuel will also be allowed, officials said.

Traffic police in both cities advised transporters and vehicle owners to inform drivers about the restrictions in advance. Violators will face action under the Motor Vehicles Act.
