The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has decided to conduct a CCTV inspection of a pipeline network from Central Peripheral Road (CPR) to Almeida Chowk after a 3.5-metre section of pipeline was found missing.

The authority said around 15 km of the 20-km pipeline has been tested so far and 23 leakages have been repaired. Officials said it will take another two months to fix the entire pipeline.

The Sector 72 boosting station will improve water supply in Sectors 58 to 71, covering a large residential area that is currently underserved, officials said.

“During testing of the pipeline along the CPR to NH-48 last week, a 3.5-metre section was found missing. The entire stretch from NH-48 cloverleaf to Almeida Chowk will be now be checked through a CCTV probe. We will also conduct leakage tests,” said a senior GMDA official.

According to the authority, defects were found in June near Elan Mall, near the CNG pump, Sector-36, the Sector-37D service road, Ramprastha City, the railway crossing, the Ashok Patel office, the CPR, Pareena Society, and the CPR junction. All these defects have been repaired.

“The authority has spent over ₹500 crore on water distribution infrastructure in Sector 58 to 74. The infrastructure cannot be fully utilised until the pipeline is operational,” the official said.

The tender for laying the pipeline was awarded on December 6, 2012 by the HSVP for about ₹144 crore. The contractor needed to complete the project within 21 months. The GMDA was constituted in 2018 and took over the responsibility for the Millennium City’s drinking water supply and the master supply network, including the pipeline. However, the project was delayed due to litigation related to land acquisition, officials added.
