Gurugram Two home guards, who were on night patrol, were allegedly beaten up by at least four persons after an altercation in Q block of South City-2 late Thursday.
The police said that one of the home guards sustained a head injury and had to be admitted to a hospital, but both are said to be stable. The suspects stole their wallets and mobile phones, the police said.
According to the police, the guards, who are deputed with the Sector 50 police station, were patrolling the area on foot around 2.30am when they noticed a group of men loitering around a particular block.
The police said that the men had been circling the same stretch several times, arousing the suspicions of the home guards.
Shahid Ahmed, station house officer (SHO), Sector 50 police station, said the officials suspected something amiss and approached them. “When the officials were questioning the suspects, an argument ensued. The suspects became unruly and attacked the officials. They snatched their phones, wallets and manhandled them. One of them escaped with minor bruises while the other official sustained a head injury and was taken to a hospital. He sustained two stitches and received treatment at a hospital,” said SHO.
Police said the suspects are yet to be identified and the police are scanning footage from CCTV cameras in the area.
A police officer privy to the investigation, requesting anonymity, said the suspects were not carrying any weapon. “They escaped on foot after the incident. It is possible that they are part of a gang of snatchers, considering that they stole phones and wallets of the officials,” the officer said.
A case was registered against the suspects under relevant sections of Indian Penal Code at Sector 50 police station on Friday, said police.
On September 26, four persons, including a woman, were booked for allegedly assaulting a 50-year-old officer of the Delhi Police after a heated argument at Surya Vihar in Sector 9A. The official had sustained a fracture to a finger of his right hand.
