The Azad Samaj Party (Kanshi Ram), a Dalit-based working to spread its base across state, on Friday announced candidates on 45 assembly seats, including SC candidates from unreserved seats of Lucknow Cantt, Govind Nagar, Vishwanathganj, Bikapur and Chharra, for the 2027 UP assembly polls.

Among the candidates, who have been appointed in-charge of the assembly seats from which they will contest next year’s election, 18 are from the Scheduled Castes (SCs), 16 from Other Backward Classes (OBCs), 10 are Muslims and one Sikh.

Majority of seats for which Chandrashekhar Azad’s party announced candidates are in West UP—the region that has been a BSP stronghold.

The ASP is upbeat following the victory of party founder Chandrashekhar Azad from the Nagina Lok Sabha seat in the 2024 general election. Azad defeated BJP candidate Om Kumar by margin of over 1.51 lakh votes.
