AIIMS Patna founding chief loses ₹3.22 lakh to cyber fraud in Lucknow

A 72-year-old founding director of AIIMS Patna allegedly lost ₹3.22 lakh to cyber fraudsters in Lucknow, with the money being withdrawn from his Indian Bank account through multiple transactions over more than two months, police said.

Dr Girish Kumar Singh, currently an orthopaedic professor at Prasad Institute of Medical Sciences and a resident of Eldico Emperor on Dr Baijnath Road in Nishatganj, approached police after noticing unauthorised withdrawals from his account.

According to his complaint, ₹3,22,408 was debited through several transactions between July 3 and September 15, 2026. Singh told police that he had not shared any OTP or other confidential banking information with anyone.

He reported the suspected fraud on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP) on September 18, following which an FIR was registered at Mahanagar police station under relevant sections.

Police are examining the victim’s bank statements and the digital trail of the transactions to identify the account holders and others involved in the fraud.
