Lucknow crossings poorly planned, need to be reworked: LMC report
These are the findings of the survey report by Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) that was prepared on the directives of divisional commissioner.
Poor designing, encroachments and faulty planning of 12 crossings in the state capital are the main cause of traffic jams as the roads have become narrower.

These are the findings of the survey report by Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) that was prepared on the directives of divisional commissioner.
“Now these crossings need to be reworked for better traffic management,” said the report, which also recommends reducing traffic islands, green areas and footpath and arranging for drainage for smoother traffic flow.
“Encroachment is another problem as they are happening on footpath and green belts,” a LMC official said.
At the Kaiserbagh crossing for instance, the road has become narrow due to the construction of footpath on road leading to the cantonment area. Lack of rain water drainage facility and incomplete side utility duct means poor traffic management, the report said.
At Sikandarbagh, apart from lack of drainage facility, the roads leading to crossing have become narrower due to construction of footpath on both sides, the report added.
Roads becoming narrower have caused traffic problems at Kapurthala crossing too. In addition, encroachment on the green belt area has made matters worse.
The sector Q crossing has similar issues after width of the traffic roundabout and footpath have been narrowed while at Alkapuri crossing, encroachments along with other issues have caused traffic jams.
At the Paper Mill crossing, the footpath is heavily encroached and there is a difference in the footpath level on the left side towards the Metro City. Closed drain and manholes create water logging after rains.
At the Nishatganj crossing apart from construction of an island, the width of the green belt and footpath is also contributing to traffic jam. At the Chinhat tri-section, the drain on the right side is completely closed while footpath on both sides of the road towards the Avadh bus stand has no arrangement for drainage. The footpaths along Koneshwar crossing are encroached upon and poor drainage facilities compounds problems. The Balaganj crossing’s roundabout has been expanded leading to narrower road. The Sushma Hospital crossing faces similar issues, so does Matiyari crossing.
