NCW organises day-long consultation meet at LU

The NCW chairperson talked about the awareness to change the mind-set of the young generation, especially men, to consider women as human beings first

The National Commission for Women (NCW), in association with the Institute of Women’s Studies, University of Lucknow (LU), organised a day-long regional consultation meeting, on Thursday. The meeting aimed at discussing the achievements of NCW since 2014 and NGOs such as Swadhar Greh, Ujjwala, and others.

Rekha Sharma, chairperson, NCW, was present as the chief guest along with Prof Alok Kumar Rai, vice-chancellor, LU, with participants from Northern India including Varanasi, Kanpur, Meerut, Srinagar, etc.

Addressing the gathering, Sharma talked about the awareness to change the mind-set of the young generation, especially men, to consider women as human beings first, rather than seeing them as mothers, daughters, and caregivers.

“This change should come from within family, society, state, country,” she said.

Sharma also asked for the viewpoints and suggestions from members of the Swadhar Greh, Ujjwala and OSC (One Stop Center) for further improvements and issues faced by these institutes while working for women’s welfare.

The programme was attended by various stakeholders including representatives from the State Commission for Women, women and child development/ social welfare department and the representation of NGOs working on Swadhar Greh, Ujjwala and OSC.
