Rahul an irresponsible Leader of Opposition: UP deputy CM Maurya
Keshav Prasad Maurya said because of Rahul Gandhi’s “ego and arrogance,” the entire Parliament session was wasted
Uttar Pradesh deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya on Friday hit back at the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi over his recent remarks against PM Narendra Modi regarding foreign policy, saying he would not have been elected even as a corporator in Prayagraj had he not been born into the Gandhi family.
“It is the misfortune of the country that Rahul Gandhi is today the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha,” Maurya said while talking to media persons in Prayagraj. He alleged that Gandhi did not exercise restraint over what he should or should not say and, because of his “ego and arrogance,” wasted the entire Parliament session.
Maurya said Parliament’s functioning gives newly elected MPs an opportunity to raise questions, alleging that Gandhi and “Akhilesh Yadav and company” had deprived other MPs of this right. He also accused them of lowering the standards of parliamentary language.
“The country has got such an irresponsible Leader of Opposition for the first time in its political history,” Maurya claimed, adding that the constitutional position held by Gandhi demanded seriousness, restraint and dignity.
The deputy CM also criticised Gandhi over his remarks at a recent Congress national convention and alleged that his conduct reflected “political frustration, disappointment and deep resentment”.
On the Samajwadi Party, Maurya claimed it would not return to power until 2047 and alleged that the party was projecting the name of party leader Azam Khan ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh assembly elections as part of its vote-bank politics.
Earlier in the day, Maurya visited Chandrashekhar Azad Park on Partition Horrors Remembrance Day and paid floral tribute at the statue of freedom fighter Chandrashekhar Azad.
