A 43-year-old man allegedly molested a woman near a school in Vasant Vihar, Thane, when she was waiting to pick up her child from the school.

She did not know the man nor did he stay in the area. The woman claimed that he randomly came and touched her inappropriately from behind.

According to a Chitalsar police officer, the incident happened on Monday at around 3.30pm, when the woman was waiting near a school. There were many other parents. The man took advantage of the crowd and groped her. The woman called out for help and grabbed the man. Several passers-by gathered and held the man and started assaulting him and handed him to the police.

Sukhada Patil, Chitalsar police station senior police inspector, said, “We arrested the accused and produced him in court on Tuesday where he was sent to judicial custody. The residents and passers-by immediately held him after the woman cried for help and handed him over to us. The accused and the victim didn’t know each other. He came randomly and did the shameful act. We have registered a case of molestation under IPC 354 against him. We are yet to get his previous crimes and background.”
