MUMBAI: The Maharashtra State Common Entrance Test (CET) Cell has rejected 528 applications for medical admission in the final provisional list due to a lack of proper documents. Over 35,500 students had applied for Group A medical admissions this year.

Apart from the 528 rejected applications, more than 1,400 SC/ST students have seen a change of category because of not getting a caste validity certificate. These students were unable to produce the required documents to support their claims.

Students who are unhappy with the changes or rejection can raise their concerns with the CET Cell before the final merit list is published. The final merit list for Group A is scheduled to be published on August 25. A CET cell official stated that the grievances process was going on.

On August 19, the revised schedule was announced after the provisional merit list showed that 972 candidates had been declared ineligible because they had failed to submit the required documents. More than 2,600 candidates also faced changes in their category or domicile status because of invalid or incomplete documents.

Following this, the CET Cell gave students another opportunity to upload the required documents. This year, for the first time, the CET Cell made it compulsory for candidates to upload all necessary documents during the registration process. The decision was taken to reduce disputes during the admission process and prevent candidates from securing seats using incorrect or forged documents.

The move also comes after 151 candidates were found to have registered using fake domicile documents last year. Officials stated that the new document verification system, introduced this academic year, is aimed at making the admission process more transparent and preventing misuse of reservation and domicile benefits.

The CET Cell will publish the seat matrix along with the final merit list on August 25, after which students will be able to fill in their choices between August 26 and August 29. The first Centralised Admission Process (CAP) round will be announced on August 30.

Students who are allotted seats in the first round will have to physically report to their respective colleges between August 31 and September 4. They will be required to submit their original documents and pay the prescribed fees to complete the admission process.
