MUMBAI: In a cabinet meeting on Monday, the government approved the establishment of a private health sciences university in Nagpur, named in honour of the legendary singer and Bharat Ratna awardee, Lata Mangeshkar.

The Nagpur-based VSPM Academy of Higher Education had submitted a proposal to this effect. The university will offer undergraduate, postgraduate and super-speciality courses in medicine, dentistry, physiotherapy and nursing. The institution already has a well-equipped 1,138-bed hospital.
VSPM Academy of Higher Education is jointly run by BJP MLA Ashish Deshmukh and his father, Ranjit Deshmukh, who serve as its vice-president and president, respectively.
This will be the second institution in Maharashtra to be established in the legendary singer’s name, after the Bharat Ratna Lata Dinanath Mangeshkar International College of Music and Museum, in Mumbai.
