The complaint has alleged that the father-son duo is defaming the deceased daughter and spreading misinformation about her death. The petition was filed by the Rane’s after a sessions court granted them interim protection from arrest on March 4. The petition will come up for hearing in due course.

According to the petition filed through advocate Satish Maneshinde, the FIR was politically motivated and was filed by Vasanti Salian after being prompted to do so by mayor Kishori Pednekar.

The complaint by Vasanti has stated that Rane made allegations about her daughter being gang-raped and murdered as a result of which a question was raised on her daughter’s character and forced people to start to avoid them. Malwani police registered an FIR against the Ranes under sections 211, 500, 504, 509, 506 (2) and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) read with section 67 of the Information Technology Act for defamation and words leading to insult modesty of a woman, criminal intimidation and common intention.

The petition further states that there is no case made out against them and the FIR was politically motivated with malafide intention and hence sought quashing of the FIR.
