‘Should be in Limca Book of Records’: Supriya Sule over raids on Deshmukh family

Supriya Sule's comments come even as the ED sought time to file replies on the applications of Malik and Deshmukh, seeking permission to be allowed to vote in the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections in Maharashtra.

NCP MP Supriya Sule on Monday took a swipe at the Centre over jailed party leaders Nawab Malik and Anil Deshmukh, and said 109 times raids by central agencies on the Deshmukh family should make it to Limca Book of Records.

"Our two leaders - Nawab Malik and Anil Deshmukh - who didn't do anything are stuck in jail. 109 times raids on the Deshmukh family should make it to Limca Book of Records... Today or tomorrow, the court will give them a clean chit. Whoever speaks against the Centre is raided, news agency ANI quoted Sule as saying.

Anil Deshmukh, former Maharashtra home minister, on Friday had moved a special court in Mumbai seeking a one-day bail to cast his vote in the elections. The plea has been filed a day after the former minister along with two of his aides was named in a charge sheet filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in a corruption case.

The 72-year-old Nationalist Congress Party leader was arrested in November last year by the ED in connection with charges of money laundering against him.

Deshmukh, his personal assistant Kundan Shinde and personal secretary Sanjeev Palande are currently lodged in Mumbai's Arthur Road jail in a money laundering case being probed by the ED.

The CBI in its statement had said that during the preliminary inquiry, it was found that the accused and his two aides attempted to “obtain undue advantage for the improper and dishonest performance of their public duties”. The probe agency also accused the trio of exercising undue influence over the transfers and postings of police officers.
