MUMBAI: A 29-year-old woman died after she was run over by a water tanker at a traffic signal in Ghatkopar East on Wednesday night.

According to the police, the deceased, Yamini Ashok Suware, a resident of MG Road in Ghatkopar East, was crossing the road at the Sindhu Wadi signal when the accident occurred. The tanker driver told the police that he started the vehicle after the signal turned green and noticed the woman too late to stop, and run over her. She was rushed to Rajawadi Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.
Suware’s father, Ashok Suware, said she was attending a vocational training course in Tardeo and travelled there by bus, which picked her up from Amar Mahal in Chembur. She would return to Amar Mahal and then travel back home to Ghatkopar.
The Tilak Nagar police have registered a case against the tanker driver under section 106 (causing death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and arrested him.
