MUMBAI: A 22-year-old woman has been booked by the police after a foetus, estimated to be five to six months old, was allegedly found concealed in a bucket containing phenyl-mixed water inside the washroom of a private clinic in Panvel.

According to police, clinic staff discovered the foetus after the woman visited the facility complaining of stomach pain. “The lady had come to the clinic complaining of a stomach ache. She denied being pregnant and had visited the washroom,” an investigating officer said.
The clinic later approached the police and lodged a complaint. The woman allegedly terminated her pregnancy in the clinic washroom between 5.30pm and 7.30pm on June 2.
Police suspect that she attempted to conceal the birth by placing the foetus in a bucket filled with phenyl water inside the toilet.
Based on the complaint, police registered a case under Section 94 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which deals with the concealment of birth through the secret disposal of a child’s body.
The foetus has been sent for medical and forensic examination to determine whether it was stillborn or showed signs of life at birth. Police said the woman has been identified and is being questioned.
