Ghaziabad:Ghaziabad officials on Thursday said 5kg LPG cylinders, popularly known as “Chhotu cylinder”, have been made available at different gas agencies.

District supplies department officials said the Ghaziabad district currently has 1.2 million regular LPG connections and 0.35 million piped gas connections.

“The small cylinders will improve access for migrants and those settled in Ghaziabad from outside districts. People can get a connection by submitting their Aadhaar card copy, proof of residence along with a security deposit of ₹968. The gas cylinder will be available for ₹555,” Amit Tiwari, district supplies officer, told HT.

However, the HT team on Thursday visited LPG agencies in Raj Nagar, Patel Nagar, Vijay Nagar, and Nandgram and found the 5kg cylinders were not available.

Mahavir Singh, a resident of Patel Nagar, told HT, “There has been a long queue at the agency since 6 am for regular LPG cylinders. The 5kg cylinder is still not available.”

The district supply officer (DSO)said the cylinder was available at a gas agency in Muradnagar, following which the HT team visited the location.

Shamshad Ali, a resident of Rawli Road, told HT that the 5kg cylinder was available at the Muradnagar gas agency.

“I received a 5kg cylinder and expect it to last for about a week. Earlier, my mother used to cook food on a chulha (a stove made of clay), which created a lot of smoke. My neighbours told me that the 5kg cylinder is available here,” Ali added.
