The woman has been identified as Priti Sharma who lived with her partner Firoz Salmani (23). Firoz was a native of Sambhal district in Uttar Pradesh and worked at a saloon in Delhi. Priti allegedly slit his throat with a razor on Saturday night following an altercation, officials informed.

“She left her husband four years ago and was living with Firoz since then. Priti was pressuring him to marry her but he refused. Both of them got into an argument regarding this on Saturday night following which she killed him. Priti then went to Seelampur in Delhi on Sunday and bought a big trolley bag to dispose the body,” said Abhijeet R Shankar, assistant superintendent of police, Sahibabad.

She tied up the body and stuffed it inside the newly purchased bag, about three and a half feet in length. Priti planned to take the bag to Ghaziabad railway station and leave it in some train, investigators added.

“She stepped out of her flat with the bag around 2am on Monday and started looking for an auto. She was spotted by policemen who were conducting a routine check. They found her suspicious and asked her to open the bag,” said Gyanendra Kumar Singh, superintendent of police (city 2).

One of the wheels of the trolley bag was not functioning properly and Priti toiled hard to drag it. “She was spotted profusely sweating trying to drag the big bag. When Priti saw the policemen approaching, she left the bag and started walking on the road. When she was asked about the contents of the bag, she did not reply and became nervous. The body was discovered once the bag was opened,” sub inspector Pravin Kumar Malik, Sahibabad police station said. Priti was taken into custody around 4am on Monday after formalities related to the seizure memo were completed.

Police said that Firoz’s family members have been informed and Priti is being questioned in detail. They added that she was married to one Deepak Yadav and left him over domestic issues. Cops took suo motu cognisance and registered an FIR against her under sections related to murder and destruction of evidence of the Indian Penal Code at Sahibabad police station.
