Assam: Two teenagers, woman allegedly thrashed in two separate incidents

In two separate cases of moral policing in Assam’s Baksa and Nagaon districts, a woman and two teenage boys were allegedly assaulted by a mob on Friday.

As per the reports, the woman, a resident of Kajiamati village, was allegedly trashed by a group of men in Baksa’s Dumuni Ghat area on Friday morning.

The incident was recorded and shared on social media. In the video, a group of men can be seen dragging, beating and abusing the woman.

According to the locals, it was a case of moral policing as the woman was allegedly involved in some improper activities in a public place.

Superintendent of police (SP), Baksa district, Rajen Singh said that they are not aware of any such incident and no police complaint has been registered yet with the police.

In another case, two teenage boys were allegedly thrashed in a market area for stealing mobile phones from a shop. The incident took place in Nagaon’s Juria town on Friday morning.

Superintendent of police (SP), Nagaon district, Leena Doley told HT that two teenage boys were detained for allegedly stealing mobile phones. “Locals caught them and handed them over to police. We are investigating the matter,” she said.
